[0:00:30] Andrew: Hello, welcome to Regulation Draft. Nobody wants to start things off, so I'm starting things off. Jeff is the only person who starts things off. With this Action Star Draft, we're picking our favorite Action Stars, what we think are the best Action Stars. There are so many ways you could go about this. I'm excited to see everybody's boards. I came prepared with 25 picks, which apparently was an insane thing to do. But here we are.
[0:00:56] Nick: You're saying it as if it's not. How many picks does everyone have? Five? Like 10, 20? You have 10 or 20? I have 12.
[0:01:04] Andrew: You have 10 or 20. That is a big either or. It's either this amount or twice that amount.
[0:01:10] Eric: I hadn't opened the full note yet. I was just looking at the top. So truly, like, Nick should be on your side, Andrew.
[0:01:15] Geoff: Oh, Nick is on my side. I'm on my side. He's clearly on Andrew's side, yeah. No bad ideas.
[0:01:20] Eric: Gavin, how many picks did you have? Oh, like 10. Okay. Gavin has 10. I thought you said 4. Now, to be clear, this is the Action Star Draft. This is Action Stars. Which is the actor. Oh, I have 10. An actress who plays. Okay, wait. Hang on. Okay, Nick is going back on his number.
[0:01:38] Gavin: Character was 20. Did you not know which draft we do? We've had a whole conversation. Regulatrion.com.
[0:01:49] Eric: How are we alive? Like, I don't understand. Okay, so this is the actor. This is the actor who plays the action character.
[0:01:58] Andrew: Yes, correct. Not the specific character, and then we'll do the specific character draft. I think there will be some interesting people selected in each as far as how they're represented. Because there are certain characters that I think of as, like, incredibly important action characters that I do not feel that way at all about the actor. I would not put the actor in the list.
[0:02:20] Geoff: I agree. I think you're spot on there. Okay. Fair point. And how many times would you want to randomize, would you say, Andrew?
[0:02:25] Andrew: Oh, what's a good action number?
[0:02:29] Geoff: Well, I feel like a trilogy, three is when you've hit the, like, you know you've made it when you get to make three movies. Also, three, action is the third word in lights, camera, action.
[0:02:39] Gavin: Oh!
[0:02:41] Andrew: That's something I can get behind. That's even better.
[0:02:42] Eric: Let's do three! Okay, well, remember, we are in an egg order to start. Andrew, Nick, Eric, Jeff, Kevin. Man, I hope I go first. Holy shit. Nick. Two is Jeff, Eric, Nick, Andrew, Gavin, and finally... Horrific. ...the third time. Gavin! Oh, shit! Jeff, Nick, Andrew. Andrew, how are you feeling about your placement here? You got a snake draft, though.
[0:03:06] Andrew: I mean, I have 25 picks, so I don't feel the worst about it. But, uh... There you go. I think that there's a pretty clear, like, first name.
[0:03:18] Eric: Okay. Well, let's see if Gavin gets it, because Gavin has the first pick on the action stars draft. Gavin, who you got?
[0:03:24] Gavin: Let's see if I correctly guess the name that Andrew thinks should be the first pick in the pool of all action stars. Mm-hmm. Well, that's Jackie Chan, isn't it? Jackie Chan. Ooh, it's a good one.
[0:03:35] Andrew: Solid. Solid pick. How do you feel about that? It's a great pick.
[0:03:38] Gavin: Oh, it wasn't your first pick, though.
[0:03:41] Andrew: I think as far as if you're going for most popular, I wouldn't say it's Jackie Chan, but that's a great pick. Where was he on your list, Andrew? Uh, technically he's first, but I would put him second. What's that mean?
[0:04:00] Unidentified: Okay. So, I want... I want to, like...
[0:04:04] Eric: We're going to keep recording, but I want to, like, pause the whole draft for a second, because before we started, Andrew assured me that the number that he had everyone in was the draft order that he would go with, because he did them in a ranked way, and I said analysis paralysis would set in, and he said no. Now he's telling me that his number one is what he would put number two?
[0:04:27] Andrew: I guess it was the thing I thought of first, but number two is what I would have liked. I'm just looking at it.
[0:04:35] Eric: You are the single fucking craziest person that I know.
[0:04:38] Gavin: So, on your list, is he number two or number one on the list?
[0:04:42] Andrew: Uh, Jackie Chan is number one, because I think that was... You suck! The first one I've thought of, but it's not quite... Don't listen to them, Andrew. I love it.
[0:04:55] Eric: But you told us that you put them in order.
[0:04:57] Andrew: Yeah, it was just, uh, that was wrong, I guess. That was just...
[0:05:01] Gavin: Oh, you sound so defeated. Oh, it's just incorrect, I guess. Eric has stood up. He is up and about. Well, I got... Wait, did I even do... Yeah, I got 24.
[0:05:11] Geoff: All Eric's doing is stalling, so he doesn't have to make his pick.
[0:05:14] Andrew: I got 24 other names, so I'm good. I'm set.
[0:05:17] Eric: Right! And they should, as you assured me, all be in order.
[0:05:21] Andrew: Oh, yeah, that's definitely not the case I'm looking at.
[0:05:28] Unidentified: This is going to lose. We're on the first pick. I'm going to lose my mind.
[0:05:34] Andrew: I don't know why you're so worried about my picks. My picks are fine. I've got the list in front of me.
[0:05:39] Unidentified: Well, my pick, because I have the second pick,
[0:05:43] Eric: my pick is going to be maybe a newer action star than I think some other guys are going to go with. I'm going to go with big John Cena. Retired now. Oh, wow. From professional wrestling. Not on my board. A full-time action star, the peacemaker himself. Wow. John Cena.
[0:06:00] Andrew: 12 rounds is the most excited I've been about a premise for a film and then was most disappointed by. Maybe. Of all time. Yeah. Tough. Littlefinger and John Cena going at it in which he has to complete 12 trials to defeat the bad guy. But then they just end up skipping like five of them. It's too many. They figured out 12 is too many. It is. What's your favorite John Cena movie, Eric?
[0:06:26] Eric: Uh, I think he is the most fun in probably Fast 9 when he's hanging out with a kid. I could see that. That is fun. Yeah.
[0:06:38] Andrew: Yeah. I weirdly go to the Marine, which is definitely not his best movie. Oh, wow. His first.
[0:06:43] Eric: Oh, no. I just think that he's a good mix of Mark Wahlberg charisma, but with like the rock size. You know what I mean? Absolutely. I think that's a great parable. So, Jackie Chan's off the list. So is John Cena. Let's see if the JC train continues because it's Jeff's turn. Toot toot.
[0:07:02] Gavin: Jesus Christ.
[0:07:03] Geoff: I am going to buck the JC train.
[0:07:06] Eric: Oh, man.
[0:07:07] Geoff: Sorry. I had to do it. And as a child of the late 70s and early to mid 80s, there was one person above all else who entertained us consistently through all mediums, and that was Harrison Ford.
[0:07:20] Nick: Oh, Harrison. Oh, my God. He's on my list. I didn't expect that at all. Oh, wow. He was in everything, man. Indiana Jones. He was Han Solo. He was Jack Ryan. Jack Ryan. It's a great pick. It's a great pick. Yeah.
[0:07:33] Andrew: Not on your list, huh, Andrew? No, on my list. Just not what I was thinking. For one, Jackie Chan. On Andrew's list, it was 16th, but it would have been 9th. Can I ask where he was on your list? Harrison Ford is 7th on my board. But that doesn't represent where he would have been picked, I guess.
[0:07:52] Geoff: Because he didn't put him in any kind of order. Yeah, it was just, I guess, who I thought of in sequence.
[0:07:59] Gavin: Do you ever put your draft picks? Do you ever transfer that to the list of 20,000 things? Oh, no.
[0:08:05] Andrew: I probably would be at 40,000 if I did that.
[0:08:08] Eric: But instead, he'll just never do any of them.
[0:08:12] Geoff: Yeah, but instead he'll stick to the zero progress. Yeah, absolutely.
[0:08:15] Eric: Yeah, great. Well, Harrison Ford is a good pick. I think a good first-round pick right there. Great first-round pick. Like Andrew said, maybe someone that you don't think of immediately as a action star, but definitely an action star. But Nick, who do you have for your first-round pick?
[0:08:32] Nick: The action movie guy. He's in everything. Mission Impossible. This is crazy. He's Live, Die, Repeat. It's Tom Cruise. Tom?
[0:08:41] Geoff: I'm just going to say Philip Seymour Hoffman, but yeah, no.
[0:08:44] Nick: However you feel about him outside of movies, whatever. He is the action star guy.
[0:08:48] Eric: Oh, wow. Andrew said that's crazy.
[0:08:51] Andrew: Yeah, I just can't believe my number one is going to reach me at five. I'm very excited about it. Your number one was Jackie Chan. I think Andrew's number one will be my number two. But actually, number one is going to reach me at number five. Tom Cruise is a great pick. Tom Cruise is a phenomenal pick. What's your favorite Tom Cruise movie, Nick?
[0:09:12] Gavin: M.I. 3? M.I. 3. It's a good one. It's a really good Mission Impossible movie. It's the best Mission Impossible film.
[0:09:18] Nick: I haven't seen any past the first one with a label other than a number. Fallout? What's the one where he climbs a building? That's the last one I saw. That's four.
[0:09:28] Andrew: And he's got a good, like, range of other action movies outside.
[0:09:33] Geoff: He climbs the building and he's like, I'm not going to make the extra action. No, it's the rabbit's foot.
[0:09:36] Gavin: Oh, I thought Nick was talking about the Burj Khalifa.
[0:09:40] Andrew: Yeah, that's four.
[0:09:41] Gavin: That's four.
[0:09:42] Andrew: That's four. But he also climbs the buildings in three and four. He does a building thing in three as well. Fair play.
[0:09:47] Eric: Okay. Well, there you go. Tom Cruise on the list. And now we get to figure out Andrew's number one, which is number two at number five. So, Andrew, you actually have two picks in a row. I do.
[0:09:57] Andrew: You can really mix it up if you want to. And there's a lot to pick from. A lot of great names. I think this is, like, the face of action movies. This is crazy. Arnold Schwarzenegger is my pick. Ah. That's my number two. Action films that he's in. He's great at everything. He's got so much charisma. He is, I think, like, what John Cena would dream to be. What all these guys would dream to be in terms of charisma, range of films. John Cena is funny, though. Yeah. He's funny. He's incredible. So many, like. Schwarzenegger. Six different franchises, it feels like, that he is integral to and brings so much.
[0:10:39] Eric: What do you think? What's your number one on there? What's the Schwarzenegger one that you go to?
[0:10:44] Andrew: Predator, by far. I love, I'm a huge Predator. I love Predator. I hear that. Incredible. But, I mean, you can't. A Running Man, he's not a good movie, but, like, he's great. Jingle all the way. Him beating up all the Santas. Like, you put some action with that man. It's fun. Doesn't even need to be in action film.
[0:11:02] Gavin: Your one was my two, and my two was, my one was your.
[0:11:06] Eric: Yeah, exactly. You nail it. I don't need to expand on that at all. Your one was his one, and his one was your two.
[0:11:12] Gavin: That's what I meant.
[0:11:13] Eric: Yeah, no, I got you. I'm with you. Hey, Gavin, me and you.
[0:11:15] Unidentified: I'm with you.
[0:11:15] Andrew: And now going with my swing, I'm taking another fellow Canadian, Keanu Reeves.
[0:11:22] Geoff: Nice.
[0:11:23] Andrew: Different options. You got John Wick. You got Speed. You got The Matrix. Like, an incredible action star that doesn't necessarily get his credit in that realm. It's like the fandoms of those things feel almost like they're pocketed off in their own fandom, but that man has range as far as action goes.
[0:11:42] Eric: Yeah, I mean, the John Wick stuff alone, I think, puts them on here, but when you look at stuff like Speed, it can really elevate them. Point break. Yeah, hell yeah. Yeah, like, just so many. He's shooting the sky, baby. I think Keanu Reeves is a good pick, Andrew. Great pick. Yeah, fantastic pick.
[0:11:59] Gavin: Very, very interesting. Does he have the record for the most bullets fired directly into the sky in one movie?
[0:12:04] Eric: Oh, that's interesting. He's trying to bring down God. But, Nick, you have your second pick here as action star draft.
[0:12:12] Nick: I feel like this guy is the face of action movies at this point. He's in every action movie. He plays the same character in every action movie. He is the face and the voice of action movies. It is Jason Statham. Ooh. And while, you know, I feel like he has a few fun ones, you know, Transporter, everybody likes Crank, right? But then, I never saw Beekeeper, but he always plays the same character.
[0:12:38] Eric: Oh, you're missing out. No, I'm not.
[0:12:40] Nick: Yeah, he keeps the bees.
[0:12:41] Andrew: He's making sure those bees are kept. I think what makes Jason Statham unique on this list, outside of Jackie Chan, is he just plays action guys one time and then does the next action guy. Usually. Usually. Like, a lot of these people are building franchises.
[0:12:56] Gavin: He's just doing one-offs. Mm-hmm. It's the same character, though, in every one of them.
[0:13:01] Eric: Oh, in all of them. Oh, absolutely. If you watch the Transporter, you've seen the Beekeeper. Yeah.
[0:13:05] Nick: You've seen Crank.
[0:13:06] Eric: Yeah. Oh, absolutely. It's the same. It's different in Snash, though.
[0:13:09] Nick: It doesn't stay from the whole time.
[0:13:11] Eric: Like, it's just him doing that. Always.
[0:13:13] Andrew: Doing voices in Call of Duty, as well. Is he really? He was in some of the early ones, I think, before he was super famous. Oh, wow. I didn't know that. In Expendables, he uses knives.
[0:13:23] Eric: That's different. In Expendables?
[0:13:24] Gavin: Great comedian, too. Yeah. I will say, one of the most boring Instagram accounts I've ever followed. Really? Just constantly on jets and in, like, Dubai and shit.
[0:13:33] Andrew: Yo, he's a big Dubai guy. A hundred percent. Whenever I see a boxing match that's in Dubai, he is front and center. Wow. Weird.
[0:13:42] Eric: Crazy. Well, Jason Statham is on the list, so he's off the board. We go to Jeff. See what his second pick is.
[0:13:49] Geoff: I'm excited about this pick. Okay. I wasn't super afraid somebody would take it yet, but I am worried that it might go eventually. But he's definitely second in my heart, and I appreciate the longevity of a career. Similar to what you said about Statham, it doesn't do a lot of repeats, although when he does, when he knocks out a trilogy, even at an older age, it's maybe the best thing he's ever done. I'm talking about Denzel Washington.
[0:14:11] Unidentified: Ooh.
[0:14:14] Eric: I have to assume Andrew's upset about that pick. I think so.
[0:14:17] Andrew: No, not at all. I don't know if I had Denzel on my board for this. Did you not watch all of his movies? Mr. Equalizer? No, I have. He's great. He, to me, falls under the category of, he is so good, like, viewing him as an action star. I don't know. He's like too good of an actor for me to put him in just that bucket. Oh, like his degree. He's got some amazing action movies.
[0:14:43] Eric: You're being derogatory to Denzel Washington.
[0:14:46] Unidentified: It's Gumball Ranch.
[0:14:48] Geoff: Action star Denzel Washington. I didn't mean to denigrate Denzel Washington by selecting him.
[0:14:52] Andrew: No, it's just, it's not, what I think of action star, I don't think of him, but there's nothing wrong with that. Pit. He's an amazing actor. He has amazing action movies.
[0:15:00] Geoff: Yeah. Good pit. That's why I picked him.
[0:15:01] Eric: I think, what's the, what's the one that you go to, Jeff?
[0:15:04] Geoff: What do you think? I like Man on Fire a lot. Ooh, good movie. Great movie, but obviously, my dick is so hard for the Equalizer these days.
[0:15:11] Nick: That's a recent thing for you too. Yeah.
[0:15:13] Geoff: Yeah. Pumping the blood.
[0:15:15] Nick: Okay.
[0:15:15] Eric: Well, back to me. For my second pick, before we go to Gavin, and someone who I think kind of carved the path for John Cena, someone who I thought was actually going to be off the board sooner. It's going to be Dwayne. Damn you. That's a good pick. The Rock. Johnson.
[0:15:35] Geoff: Good one.
[0:15:35] Eric: Dwayne Johnson is the guy who, again, he's playing himself and every, he's the good guy. Perpetually the good guy. Just action star. Everyone's tired of it at this point. That's fine. And he's still making a ton of money at the box office every time he is in a role. So, Dwayne The Rock Johnson is going to be my action guy. A lot of bad action movies, but then, hey, some good ones, but mostly bad movies. But that's, hey, that's what he does. Remember, I think he only has one leg in that one where it's like, where he has to climb a building or something.
[0:16:07] Gavin: But in The Mummy, he has like six.
[0:16:10] Eric: That's true. He makes up for it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, he actually is coming out, if you look at his leg numbers sort of on a whole, he's actually coming out ahead of a lot of like these other action guys.
[0:16:20] Andrew: So, some Scorpion. Has he been a villain in anything outside of Doom? I haven't thought about that.
[0:16:26] Eric: I don't know that he was like a villain villain, but he's, we can say like antagonistic at times with like Fast and Furious. That's true.
[0:16:35] Gavin: I mean, isn't he a Scorpion King a villain?
[0:16:36] Andrew: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I guess Scorpion King, he is a villain. But then, isn't he a good guy in the Scorpion King movie by itself? I didn't see that. I believe so. Just classic Hobbs and Schaub style too, where he's a good guy in that. Presenting him as a villain in Fast and Furious is funny because he's a cop. Yes. Like he is a villain because of his position against the criminals of the film.
[0:16:58] Gavin: Yeah. Yeah, he's a bad guy. It would be interesting to take actors and see how they ratio over their full catalog of movies when it comes to legs. Like, are they under the normal amount of legs? Like if someone's in five movies, 10 legs is what you would assume would be the baseline, right?
[0:17:15] Eric: You would assume that, yeah.
[0:17:17] Gavin: But if you're getting warmer and warmer to an idea, Nick would really like.
[0:17:21] Unidentified: No. Oh, yeah.
[0:17:23] Geoff: Nick wants to see if we can count toes. Like Daniel Day-Lewis would be in the odds, probably.
[0:17:29] Andrew: You know what's crazy is that I don't even have The Rock on my list, but he, like. You have 25 picks and he's not on your list? He's not on my list. I think I just have such rock fatigue, but he's undeniably.
[0:17:41] Gavin: Isn't he top of the box office facts?
[0:17:43] Andrew: No, absolutely. 100%. Like he is this generation's Schwarzenegger. I just, I'm kind of sick of him, so I didn't, I didn't put him on. Oof.
[0:17:52] Nick: Wow.
[0:17:53] Eric: Well, he's on my list. He's my second pick, but we have to go to Gavin for his second and his third picks in the action star draft. Gavin. What do you got?
[0:18:00] Gavin: One of my favorite action stars. Blown away by the performance in every film they're in. Kicking Krev. Kicking people's assholes and heads and stuff. It's Michelle Yeoh.
[0:18:11] Eric: Oh, hell yeah. Great link. Nice. Very, very cool. What's the Michelle Yeoh movie that you go to?
[0:18:18] Gavin: Hold on, he's looking. I was looking at how you spell it.
[0:18:21] Eric: No, it's, it's, I did the same thing. And it's like that.
[0:18:25] Gavin: What's a good go-to?
[0:18:26] Unidentified: Yeah.
[0:18:27] Gavin: Oh, that police story movie. She was in was good. I think that's the third one.
[0:18:32] Andrew: The Mummy 3. The Dragon Emperor.
[0:18:35] Gavin: Didn't see that.
[0:18:36] Andrew: I don't know if she's in it.
[0:18:37] Gavin: Crouching Taga. She's fast as shit.
[0:18:38] Geoff: That was a cool movie.
[0:18:41] Eric: You seen Yes, Madam?
[0:18:42] Geoff: I haven't. Oh, we should watch that.
[0:18:44] Eric: Okay. Very good.
[0:18:46] Geoff: Her and Cynthia Rothrock. Yeah, you've shown us clips of it. It looks awesome. Yeah, because it's so cool. Let's watch that and Bingo in the doubleheader. Yeah, that fight sequence rules.
[0:18:55] Eric: Shell Yeoh is on the list. And Gavin, you also have the third pick.
[0:18:59] Gavin: I'm going to pick someone now who I would have thought would have been picked already. He's a bit soggy looking these days, but back in the day, smashing people through walls and that, Sylvester Stallone. Ooh.
[0:19:12] Geoff: That's good one. Number three on my list. Nice. Yeah. Ooh. Now, is that because you thought of him third?
[0:19:19] Eric: Yeah, when you say number three on my list, what do you mean?
[0:19:24] Andrew: I guess, I mean, technically, he could go anywhere from three to like nine, but he is the third written name.
[0:19:33] Eric: You're a psychopath. Sylvester Stallone, a great pick, though. When he's Cobra in Cobra and he eats pizza with scissors, that's pretty cool.
[0:19:47] Geoff: Dude, I saw Cobra in the theater. I was way too young to see that movie.
[0:19:50] Andrew: Yeah, dude, no kidding. That's awesome. Did you see Tango and Cash in the theater? Oh, I love it.
[0:19:55] Geoff: Yeah.
[0:19:56] Andrew: Are you a big Tango and Cash guy, Eric?
[0:19:58] Eric: I think Tango and Cash is a lot of fun where it's just like, these are action stars. What if they played against type? And you're like, oh, really? And then you watch it and you go, oh, they're not really playing against type. I haven't seen it in a long time. He's just wearing glasses.
[0:20:11] Andrew: It's fun. They're a whole sequence of the villain putting a mouse in a mouse maze. Yeah. And it's supposed to be representative of them. Like, it's a mouse maze. That movie's ridiculous.
[0:20:24] Eric: You got it. Yeah, you should watch it again. It's pretty cool. What's the game that you could play in arcades where you sit in the car and you shoot the gun? It's like Lucky, Lucky in something. And it's just a rip off of Tango and Cash. Oh, that's an awful arcade game from it. Yeah, yeah. That's really neat.
[0:20:37] Gavin: Is that the movie where one of the bad guys just decided to do a ridiculous Cockney accent the whole movie?
[0:20:43] Eric: Does he? I don't remember. Maybe? It's possible. I haven't seen it in such a long time.
[0:20:46] Andrew: Yeah, I don't remember the accent of the bad guy. I really like that Sly Stallone has been pushed out of the Rocky franchise via Creed that he wants to be in it. I think they're making a new Rocky that he's not part of in any way. That's insane. Does he not want to be? No, he very much wants to be, but they don't want him to be involved in it. I think it's two different films by two different groups where it's like Young Rambo, and I don't know if he has involvement in that. And then it's a movie about, or a show, I don't remember which, it's about Sly Stallone making Rocky. It's like a show about him making Rocky, and he's not involved, and he very much wants to.
[0:21:30] Gavin: I think his turtles from the first movie are still alive.
[0:21:34] Andrew: Oh, they could be. They could be.
[0:21:38] Geoff: I mean, also his kid from the first movie is still alive.
[0:21:42] Andrew: Those movies aren't really worth watching, but like he brought all the action serves together as well for the Expendables. Yeah.
[0:21:48] Eric: Oh, it was fun. Those were, that first one was like a lot. It was a lot of fun. Yeah. I liked the second one a lot.
[0:21:53] Unidentified: Oh, okay.
[0:21:54] Eric: The second one had an Xbox 360 game that was a lot of fun. But, guys, I got to move on. My pick is a guy who maybe has made some waves, has got some critical acclaim, a lot of action stuff, but some serious stuff too. But the problem is he's such a, like a giant man that it's hard to take him seriously in those roles. It's my close personal friend and star of Stuber. However, it's Dave Bautista. What a guy.
[0:22:27] Gavin: I'm noticing a theme with Eric's picks.
[0:22:30] Eric: Yeah. I'm also noticing a theme. Yeah. Jacked guys. Hell yeah, dude.
[0:22:33] Andrew: Jacked. Jacked guys. Fuck yeah. Isn't it? I mean, let's get, let's focus on Dave Bautista, I guess, before I say what I'm going to say, but. Yeah. When was the last, like, great Bautista action movie? What was the last time you saw him?
[0:22:45] Eric: I, I think it's, I think it's been a while because he started taking more like serious roles or whatever. He was in like the, uh, yeah. I'm like Shyamalan movie where people knocked at the door. He was one of the knockers. He is one of the knockers.
[0:22:58] Nick: He was one of the people who knocked.
[0:23:03] Eric: But, but he, uh, I think the last thing that I saw him in that I really enjoyed him in was, uh, Naked Gun. Yeah. Shows up at the end of Naked Gun as a cameo. And it's, it took me so out of the movie in a fun way that I loved it. I genuinely loved that moment. So it's good.
[0:23:21] Andrew: He really wanted to be Marcus Phoenix for Gears of War. And it is sad. Oh yeah.
[0:23:25] Eric: I don't doubt it.
[0:23:27] Andrew: He would have been good at that. Probably not big enough anymore. No, no. He'd have to get re big.
[0:23:34] Eric: Yeah. He's, he's, I bet he could do it. I think he's put him back in the big machine. He's naturally a pretty big guy. He needs to in big in, uh, but Dave, Batiste is my pick and we go to Jeff for his third pick in the action stars draft.
[0:23:47] Geoff: Uh, I'm excited about this one. This action star, I think has quietly amassed a catalog that's much larger than you realize till you start to pour through it and they're still pumping out good stuff. I'm picking for number three, Charlize Theron. Great. Oh, interesting. From Mad Max to Bombshell, to Atomic Blonde, to the Fast and the Furious movies, to the old guards, like she has a giant catalog of action films, also a very serious actor, a very serious
[0:24:16] Andrew: actor that felt like, I don't know, like their relationship to the Fast and Furious movies, I feel like is so weird. Where everybody else in those things, it seems almost like a band or like a cult where it's like the, the, the Vin Diesel crew and they are so not a part of that and been vocally like made fun of Vin Diesel, uh, publicly. And it's just so like, they bring her in and it's supposed to be like, well, this is like a legitimate actor in this bullshit thing. And then I feel like she's never, her character is never really integrated well into that universe in a way that disappoints me. And I don't think it's so fun. Has she had good action scenes in Fast and Furious? A lot of the time she doesn't do the, she's like a hacker type. Yeah.
[0:25:06] Gavin: Yeah. She's like in a sim simulator at one point.
[0:25:08] Andrew: She doesn't, but she's so capable of it as, as Jeff brought up with like, yeah, atomic, atomic blow. Atomic blow. Yeah.
[0:25:14] Gavin: Yeah. Yeah. Massive fighting.
[0:25:17] Andrew: She's in one coming up with Taron Egerton where like he's hunting her in the woods or something from the clips I've seen like that. Yeah. Great action star. And also much like Denzel, incredible range. Can do so much. Did she win an Oscar?
[0:25:34] Eric: Or was she not? She must have, right?
[0:25:36] Geoff: For what? Monster?
[0:25:38] Eric: Did she win or was she just nominated? It would be crazy.
[0:25:42] Geoff: Hey Siri, has Charlize Theron won an Oscar? Yeah, but my hands are fucking busy. Doing what? Yeah. Crossed them his lap. Best actress. Thinking about Charlize Theron. Give me a second.
[0:26:02] Eric: So did she win or what? Yeah, I think she did. Yeah. Oh, that's great. Wow. Well, there you go. Oscar winner, Charlize Theron on the list. And we go to Nick for his third pick.

[0:27:26] Unidentified: Have you seen anything? I think that our neighborhood past summer ends on Oak Street. Ron Hathaway, Ewan McGregor. We're going to survive. By David Robert Mitchell, August 14.
[0:27:56] Nick: This guy has been in the fast movies. He's been in Marvel movies. I know who it is. Oh, do you? Yeah. Oh, I'm excited to see where this goes. He's fought horrific creature from space. He has escaped from a couple of cities. We're talking about, oh, also he shot people in the Old West a few times. And a few different movies. It's Kurt Russell.
[0:28:15] Eric: Kurt Russell. Love Kurt Russell.
[0:28:17] Nick: Great. Great pick. Love Kurt Russell.
[0:28:19] Eric: Great pick. I think one of my favorite actors, just period. Dude, he's just fun. And he has fun with everything, too. Yeah, he has a great time.
[0:28:26] Gavin: He brings it every time. I like it when he kills that chess computer.
[0:28:30] Andrew: The chest computer?
[0:28:33] Gavin: Chess. In the thing.
[0:28:34] Andrew: Oh, I heard chest. That's why I was confused. I was like, chess computer.
[0:28:40] Gavin: That's all computers.
[0:28:41] Andrew: I think all computers are chest computers?
[0:28:45] Gavin: They're in their chests? You don't want to type in.
[0:28:48] Nick: Type in in chests? What sites are you going to? Tits. He's going to talk about cake?
[0:28:59] Andrew: I love Kurt Russell in so many things. I think my favorite doofus action character of his, by far, is Big Trouble in Little China. Oh, it's the best.
[0:29:07] Unidentified: Absolutely.
[0:29:08] Eric: I think that's probably his best role because it's him doing a John Wayne impression for the whole time and being, oh, this guy's the hero. He's not. It's so subversive.
[0:29:21] Andrew: He stumbles his way through that whole movie confidently. And it is so fun and hilarious. And it's the only action movie I can think of where he defeats the main villain because of assumed incompetence by the main villain. Yes. The main villain does a thing and then he counters the thing. And it's the only act of competence he displays through the whole film. It's like the one kind of trick he can do. And the villain gets defeated by surprise of like, oh, this guy actually is good at one thing.
[0:29:53] Gavin: So I think that's one of his hardest to replicate roles for another actor.
[0:29:57] Eric: Oh, yeah. Which is crazy because, again, his his role when he's acting and having fun, he's just pretending to be a different actor. That's him pretending to be John Wayne. And then if you watch Escape from New York, that's him pretending to be Clint Eastwood. It's he's just pretending to be a better actor. And that's awesome. That's so cool.
[0:30:20] Andrew: What I think is the story.
[0:30:21] Geoff: Oh, go ahead. No, you go ahead, Andrew.
[0:30:23] Andrew: I was going to say, thinking about people that could do that role, I could see Wyatt Russell being like my number one pick of. Oh, yeah. If they're going to remake it, I think he could do a great job of that.
[0:30:33] Eric: I wish Wyatt Russell would stop doing Marvel movies and start doing anything else. I want to like him so desperately and he's doing nothing that I can possibly enjoy. Fuck.
[0:30:43] Nick: What do you mean?
[0:30:43] Eric: Oh, Kurt Russell on the list. Great pick. Now we figure out what Andrew's last two picks are because this is the snake draft. So picks are and then the fourth pick.
[0:30:54] Andrew: Yeah, I'm shocked that this person is still on the board. They're in my top five. Probably would have been in my top three. I mean, they would have to be, right? Yeah. My pick is Bruce Willis. Just so much presence elevates almost every action movie he's in, has such a wide range of them. He's also just good in all of them, which is good in a vent. Sorry, what?
[0:31:21] Gavin: He looks good in a vent.
[0:31:23] Andrew: He looks great in a vent. If you're going to do best looking vent actors, I think he's number one. And he plays the harmonica. He plays the harmonica. He was a big part of creating Planet Hollywood. He, uh, several albums. Hudson Hawk.
[0:31:41] Eric: Dude, is that? Now, where do you think that's a good movie or a bad movie, Jeff? Hudson Hawk? Yeah.
[0:31:47] Geoff: Oh, it's a bad movie that's fun to watch. Okay. All right. It's a fun, bad movie. It's boy.
[0:31:52] Andrew: I don't know anything about it outside of the box art for it, which looks like he's having a good time.
[0:31:57] Geoff: Yeah. He does have a good time. He is having a good time. Danny Aiello has a good time.
[0:32:01] Andrew: Yeah. They're having, they're having fun. Oh, he is, uh, just a fantastic action star that was apparently very difficult to work with, but pick some great roles. And some great things from Die Hard.
[0:32:17] Geoff: Showed his wiener in The Color of Night.
[0:32:19] Andrew: I'm trying to think, like, what would be my favorite? Bruce Willis movie. I don't know. He's sort of in the, I would put him in a Harrison Ford kind of category of action roles, too, where he makes a lot of, like, dumb action movies that are serious facing.
[0:32:33] Eric: Well, he was a guy who was, like, wasn't he, like, a rom-com actor?
[0:32:37] Geoff: He was in Moonlighting, was his first big role on television. And he, his first movie, uh, based off of Moonlighting, was the Blind Date movie, which was an action, which was a comedy. And then he did, Die Hard after that was, like, his follow-up. And then it launched him in an action.
[0:32:54] Eric: Yeah, because it was just such a, like.
[0:32:55] Geoff: He was pure comedy at the beginning.
[0:32:56] Eric: Again, against, oh, wow, this guy can't do this. And then he became the action guy.
[0:33:01] Geoff: Yeah.
[0:33:01] Eric: So, um, I mean, not for us, he's so far down this list, but, uh, he is Andrew's third pick. Well, I'm excited to find out who Andrew's fourth pick is, who is, who would happen to be number four on his list.
[0:33:11] Andrew: Well, he is, Bruce Willis was four. Tom Cruise was five. Keanu was six.
[0:33:19] Unidentified: Uh, so wait, hang on. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
[0:33:24] Andrew: Keanu Reeves was picked before Bruce Willis, but Bruce Willis was higher? Keanu Reeves is absolutely number two on this, but he was sixth written in my thing. That's what I was going through. So I'm just sort of evaluating my board. I'm going to go with what I think is, uh, an action star that every action star loves, a beloved figure in film. Uh, unfortunately we didn't get to see the full depth of his career. I'm picking none other than Bruce Lee. Double Bruce goes to end my draft. That wasn't a couple of Bruce pegs. A couple of Bruce some reason wasn't on my list. He's phenomenal. I mean, the iconic Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fight, so many fun movies, so influential. Uh, the only person that, uh, seems to like vocally hate him is Tarantino, which is a pretty good place to be. Um, I, I really like Bruce Lee.
[0:34:26] Andrew: One of my favorite things is that he is in every UFC game essentially, and it is fun to just beat people up as Bruce Lee. It will never get it.
[0:34:34] Unidentified: Classic UFC guy. Classic UFC guy.
[0:34:37] Gavin: It's crazy how, how he's in so many modern video games. Yes. I mean, would he even have played one?
[0:34:46] Eric: Oh, that's interesting.
[0:34:47] Gavin: No.
[0:34:47] Eric: No, he died before video games, right?
[0:34:49] Gavin: He's like in a genre he didn't, he's in a current genre he knows nothing about.
[0:34:53] Andrew: He's in media that didn't exist.
[0:34:55] Gavin: Yeah.
[0:34:55] Andrew: Like, you know, could you imagine like explain to Bruce Lee that he's going to be in a Hitman game as an event? They're going to do what to me? No, no, no. It's not really you. No, you're going to, you're, you're not getting taken out. You're helping them take out other people. We'll give you the antidote. It's fine. It's not real. Oh, you didn't see that. Eric, you would have fucking loved the Bruce Lee event. It was so cool. It was a, all the targets were in a martial arts tournament against Bruce Lee and you had to like keep Bruce Lee safe so he could kill them via the time. Oh, yeah.
[0:35:25] Geoff: And people kept poisoning him.
[0:35:28] Andrew: Phenomenal. But Bruce Lee, an icon, absolute icon in the action. What a legacy. Great pick.
[0:35:34] Eric: Yep. Great pick. And we go to Nick for his fourth and final pick as well.
[0:35:39] Gavin: Boy, this comes down to two. Well, you can only pick one.
[0:35:42] Nick: I know. I know.
[0:35:43] Gavin: You want, you want the coin? We can get you one.
[0:35:46] Nick: You got one right there? There you go. All right. I'll tell you what. Heads is the first one I have. Yep. Tails is the second. Here we go. Gerard Butler.
[0:36:01] Unidentified: Number 19 on my board.
[0:36:04] Gavin: I did not expect that name to be yelled the loudest in this draft.
[0:36:08] Nick: Geo Storm. I was thinking mostly of the Has Fallen movies. He likes to fall around a lot. Yeah. 300 was, I guess, kind of cool. Reign of Fire. One of the best kicks in a movie.
[0:36:19] Eric: What was the one with him and Jamie Foxx? Good. Law-abiding citizen. That movie's fucking cool. That movie rules? That's a fucking cool. Yeah. That part sucks. The rest of it? Oh, that movie is so fucking sick. That movie is so cool. I want a T-bone steak. And then he goes, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah.
[0:36:38] Nick: He uses it to stab his cellmate, dude.
[0:36:41] Eric: So awesome. Oh, my God. That's cool. Hilarious pick off a coin flip. Save who your other pick was for the honorable mentions at the end. But Gerard Butler. Interesting. I didn't think he was going to make this list. Was he on your list, Andrew? Oh, yeah. Yeah. He was 19.
[0:37:00] Andrew: Oh.
[0:37:00] Geoff: He was on your list, but The Rock wasn't. No. Which is crazy. I acknowledge.
[0:37:06] Andrew: That was truly a on me. Fucking psycho. Leave out. It's my own personal. I'm so sick of him currently.
[0:37:13] Geoff: Mm-hmm.
[0:37:14] Andrew: All right.
[0:37:14] Eric: All right. Well, Jeff, you have some very distinguished picks so far. Let's round it out with number four.
[0:37:19] Geoff: Well, I hope that I continue the trend of distinguished picks with my final pick, who I'm happy hasn't been selected yet. I thought that there was a chance he would. So I feel a little lucky. I'm picking Nicolas Cage. Ooh. That's a good pick. He's on my list.
[0:37:34] Unidentified: Wow.
[0:37:35] Geoff: Just a tremendous body of work. Yeah. I mean. Full commitment to every role he's ever done. All the way.
[0:37:39] Eric: Snake Eyes?
[0:37:40] Geoff: It's a star right there, baby.
[0:37:42] Gavin: You still need to watch that movie.
[0:37:43] Andrew: Yeah, me too. What's your... I can't believe we haven't done a watch along of that. That just feels like something we've already done.
[0:37:51] Geoff: What's my favorite Nick Cage movie?
[0:37:52] Eric: Yeah, yeah. What would you put your pick up there?
[0:37:54] Geoff: Oh, geez. God. Deadfall. He's a fucking absolute lunatic in that.
[0:38:00] Eric: Is that the one where he's wearing sunglasses? He has a big mustache. Yeah. And then he beats up the guy. I think they're in a strip club. He beats up the guy and he goes, hi, fucking yeah! Yeah, that one. That rocks.
[0:38:09] Geoff: Vampire's Kiss is real good. The one where the Balls Attitude Discipline one, I can't think of the name of it, with him and Sam Jackson is really where he's all pumped up and he's like body... He's like bench pressing chicks.
[0:38:19] Unidentified: Yeah. That one's real good. Gone in 60 seconds. Gone in 60 seconds is a fucking great one.
[0:38:22] Geoff: He has to make sure a car is gone in 60 seconds. Yeah, he's out of there. Yep. And then, you know, The Rock and...
[0:38:27] Eric: Ghost Rider.
[0:38:28] Geoff: Et cetera, et cetera.
[0:38:28] Eric: Ghost Rider.
[0:38:29] Geoff: Ghost Rider. I'm gonna jump that ramp. That's fucking awesome. Ghost Rider. He's so good. Could have been Superman. Ghost Rider 2 also. Yeah, great.
[0:38:36] Eric: And he was in a Superman movie in the... Oh, no, he was in a Flash movie as Superman.
[0:38:41] Gavin: Flash movie as Superman. Yeah.
[0:38:42] Eric: Oh, yeah. Bummer.
[0:38:49] Andrew: It's gonna be terrible, but I'm so excited to see him as John Madden. I just can't wait.
[0:38:54] Eric: Oh, hell yeah. I agree. I mean, it's David O. Russell, right? I think it'll be good enough just for David O. Russell and Christian Bale being in that.
[0:39:03] Andrew: The problem with David O. Russell is when his movies aren't good, they're boring.
[0:39:07] Eric: Oh, they're so boring when they're not good. You just have to see if he gets into a yelling match behind the... If you hear about him getting into a yelling match behind the scenes before this movie comes out, it's gonna be a good movie. Nick Cage, the fourth and final pick for Jeff. And now it's my final pick. Before you make your pick, Eric.
[0:39:23] Unidentified: Oh, please, yeah.
[0:39:24] Andrew: How disappointing is it that Hulk Hogan is a giant piece of shit and is undraftable? Well, you know... Looking at the scenes.
[0:39:31] Eric: Definitely not on my list. No, I would never put him on my list. Not even someone that I was gonna try for. Absolutely not. But if he was not who he was,
[0:39:41] Andrew: but was the same resume as he was,
[0:39:43] Geoff: boy, what is his film resume that you would include as a great action film, though, outside of Rocky III?
[0:39:50] Eric: Thunder in Paradise.
[0:39:52] Geoff: I've never seen it. I also...
[0:39:53] Andrew: He was weirdly important to me as a kid because of his role in Three Ninjas. Three Ninjas. High Noon.
[0:40:01] Geoff: Yep. I believe. Yep. I just feel like when he showed up in film, it was always like him in a tutu playing against type.
[0:40:08] Eric: That's fair. Yeah. Yeah. Very fair. But I'm gonna pick someone who's the opposite of the Hulkster. Someone who can stand above the rest. Someone who maybe doesn't have the longest resume of action movies, but his action movies were awesome. Ronda Rousey. He's a guy who's a running man. And a guy that... Oh, almost on the list. Also a guy that was in Predator. A former U.S. Navy SEAL.
[0:40:37] Andrew: Oh!
[0:40:38] Eric: It's Jesse to the bottom of the tree. He knows the Navy SEAL. Governor of Minnesota. Jeff, I have to go to Mexico. That's when Jesse the Body Ventura is trying to unionize professional wrestling in the 80s. Hulk Hogan finds out about it. Puts a stop to it. They get rid of Jesse the Body Ventura. He leaves the WWF. He becomes a huge action star. Predator. Running man. He is a huge action star. And then he just goes to Baja. And then he stops doing everything that he does. Jesse the Body Ventura is my fourth and final pick on this action stars draft. Love him. Love him in Predator.
[0:41:21] Gavin: This must be one of the straight-uppest drafts we've done. I think so. No one's done a bit. We're just trying to actually get our teams in.
[0:41:29] Eric: Yeah. Incredible. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's my team. But, Gavin, who's your fourth expendable here?
[0:41:36] Gavin: Nick, can I borrow the coin? Oh, of course. Oh. I'm flipping a coin. And I can say who they are.
[0:41:43] Nick: Okay. Oh, okay.
[0:41:44] Gavin: They both played Bond. Oh. One side of the coin is Daniel Craig. The other side is Timothy Dalton. Oh, good picks.
[0:41:52] Unidentified: Timothy Dalton would be the other one?
[0:41:53] Nick: Yeah. He's solid, dude. He's got some good action flicks.
[0:41:57] Unidentified: Yay.
[0:41:58] Gavin: Oh, it's Dalton! Yay! Timothy Dalton. An incredible Bond. Didn't get enough tries to do it. Constantly doing his own stunts. It's always him on camera. None of that green screen. Shite! How many movies was he in? Two. Two. But he had a pretty good scrap in the model village in Hot Fuzz.
[0:42:16] Eric: He did. He did. That's very true. Why was he only in two?
[0:42:22] Gavin: Just, you know, studio troubles.
[0:42:25] Nick: They wanted Pierce Brosnan for a long time anyway.
[0:42:28] Gavin: Yeah.
[0:42:28] Nick: Oh, they were like pushed him out type thing?
[0:42:30] Gavin: They were waiting for him to finish up on Remington Steel. Yeah, Remington Steel. Yeah. Where he essentially played James Bond.
[0:42:35] Eric: And now it's going to be Callum. Good pick. Very interesting.
[0:42:39] Gavin: I think Daniel Craig, also a tremendous action physical Bond.
[0:42:42] Nick: I think Daniel Craig would have been my pick of those too. Yeah, but I feel like he hasn't been in a ton of action outside of those. Most of his other stuff is not.
[0:42:49] Gavin: Layer Cake? Layer Cake?
[0:42:50] Andrew: Layer Cake. Yeah. I'm trying to think of other Craig action movies. He was in a war. He's doing Knives Out.
[0:42:57] Eric: He's like running around in Knives Out. You know, he's like, what's over here? Hey, what's over here? Good pick, Gavin. Very good. Timothy Dalton. Less bonds than I thought you were going to go with.
[0:43:14] Geoff: Yeah.
[0:43:14] Eric: And boys, that rounds out the Action Stars draft. We can talk about honorable mentions in a second. But Gavin drafted Jackie Chan, Michelle Yao, Sly Stallone, Timothy Dalton. I drafted John Cena, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Dave Bautista, and Jesse DiBotti Ventura. Jeff drafted Harrison Ford, Denzel Washington, Charlize Theron, Nick Cage. Nick drafted Tom Cruise, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, and Gerard Butler. Finally, Andrew has Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, Bruce Willis, and Bruce Lee. Boys, those are our Expendables picks. I like it. Any honorable mentions you guys want to throw out there?
[0:43:54] Geoff: I had five. They were all niche and more related to my childhood and my proclivities than the broader spectrum of action. So I decided to go broader. But Bruce Campbell would have been my next pick. What a fun one. For martial arts fans who might be familiar with 70s martial arts, a guy named Sonny Chiba, who was the Street Fighter, who was a phenomenal action star. Speaking of action stars from across the pond, Shokasugi, the greatest ninja to have ever lived. Joe Don Baker was a great action star when he was in Walkin' Tall and Mitchell and all of those movies. And then a great American action star who I think flies under the radar but did really solid work for Canon Films, Michael Dudikoff.
[0:44:41] Eric: Interesting. My only honorable mention, the only one I'll throw out there, is Rowdy Roddy Piper. They live in Hell House of Frogtown. Cool fight scene. Put on the glasses and he's fucking beating him up in the alley.
[0:44:56] Gavin: That's such a long scene. It's so long. Even though it's been auto-corrected to Chow Yun Fat. Chow Yun Fat was my... Probably the one I would have done if I didn't do The Bonds. Chow Yun Fat's great. Just based on hard-boiled and a crapsed tiger like shit.
[0:45:14] Nick: My tails pick was Liam Neeson. Because he is come on strong in the action movie department.
[0:45:20] Eric: Andrew, you want to run down your list of... I don't know if I need to...
[0:45:25] Andrew: A lot of them are just kind of obvious ones. I guess I'd highlight one that I don't think would have been on anybody else's board that I really like is Jean Renaud. Oh, interesting. That's a great pick.
[0:45:35] Eric: Oh, yeah, that's a great pick. Can I just ask, is Taylor Kitsch on your list? No. Wow.
[0:45:42] Andrew: Imagine if I had Taylor Kitsch above The Rock in an action movie list. Crazy. My list has essentially been entirely drafted. Outside of the wrestlers, everyone, for the most part, is here. I'd say like 15 of my 25. So I'm glad that I did 25.
[0:46:02] Eric: Well, that is the action stars draft. One of two action drafts that we're doing. The other one will be action characters. And that's one you definitely want to check out. But guys, you can check out the Patreon, patreon.com slash the regulation pod. You can also check out the podcast and the gameplay videos. A lot of gameplays coming out. A lot of fun stuff. Any parting words for the folks at home? Any action stuff? Any action stunts you guys want to do before we go?
